The Ability Project: Merging Initiatives Across Campuses

Established in 2013 with a Polytechnic School of Engineering Seed Grant and the dedication of Luke Dubois’s faculty lab at NYU MAGNET, the ABILITY Project is the synthesis of various assistive technology and adaptive design research initiatives across the broader NYU campus. It encompasses Luke Dubois’s research with stroke rehabilitation and accessibility software, Alan Goldstein’s classes on Disability Studies in Tandon School of Engineering, and Beth Rosenberg’s technology education program for students who learn differently: Tech Kids Unlimited. It is also home to classes in Developing Assistive Technologies taught by Marianne Petit of Tisch School of the Arts Interactive Telecommunications Program and Anita Perr of Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development’s Occupational Therapy program.
